Unexpected Boutique: Quirky and Unusual Handmade Jewellery
Welcome to the Unexpected Boutique, an independent collection of quirky handmade jewellery.
Here you will find necklaces, bracelets and earrings made with unusual and unexpected materials, as well as upcycled jewellery, tea-themed jewellery for tea-lovers, jigsaw puzzle piece jewellery, button jewellery and anything else from my eclectic collection of oddities that falls into my hands and gets turned into something wearable.
I've made a decision to move my jewellery towards using as few brand-new components as possible, and also to reduce the amount of metal that I use where possible. For several years I've been aware that - small as my business is in terms of overall impact - the things I make are not as environmentally friendly or as ethical as I'd like them to be. (And if we all try to do things better, there's a cumulative effect, obviously.)
However, at the moment I do have quite a lot of "new" materials in my stash of things-to-make-jewellery-from, and it would be dishonest to just get rid of them all, so I'm trying to use them all up before I get properly stuck into my new ranges of more recycled jewellery. So I've been making batches of charm necklaces, stocking up on safety pin jewellery and turning leftover glass leaf beads into earrings.
Many of my most recent creations are one-of-a-kind pieces, as they're using up bits and bobs from previous projects - and if I manage to make good on my promise to reduce my use of newly purchased materials, they may not be seen around these parts again, once they're gone. I know it's August but I'm trying to get as much jewellery made and available in time for the Christmas rush (argh!) - so keep an eye out, as there should be some more arriving soon...
Who Makes All This Stuff Anyway?
All the jewellery that you can see on this website is handmade by Helen in County Durham - find out more about me and what I do on this page here. You'll also find some answers to questions you might have about this website (which is also handmade...)
